How do children benefit from making a podcast?
- It gives them a potential audience of thousands for their work, which encourages them to take pride in their learning. They can show this to other teachers, friends and family members.
- It's great for developing literacy skills (writing scripts, setting up interviews etc), allows children to develop and practise their speaking and listening skills, and they also learn some amazing ICT skills. It can therefore support learning in numerous areas of the curriculum.
- Podcasts can be interactive, and the audience can be invited to send their comments, giving valuable feedback to the children about their work. These can then be viewed and discussed during class time. The children can then consider these comments and think about what they like about their podcasts and what they could improve.Making a podcast is also great for developing teamwork skills. The children always work together really well, as they're always keen to make a great show. This develops communication skills and speaking and listening skills, all of which contribute to a collaborative learning environment.
