Wiki Learning Pages
A Wiki is a collaborative website that is managed by a group of people. All members of the Wiki contribute either to share ideas, post extra notes taken on a subject or to allow all users to access each individual's work.
Dependent upon the settings of the Wiki, which are usually defined by the assigned Wiki manager, most users will be able to add and edit content posted on the Wiki.
I personally was a member of a Wiki during my undergraduate degree where I participated in a Spanish reading class. Here we shared ideas and responded to set questions on the text from the lecturers.
This was the perfect way to expand and build upon your own ideas through discussion with others. It also meant that grammar work could be done through the Wiki as should anyone make a mistake in this field, it could be corrected through editing by another member.
This year we are working collaboratively on the English Primary PGCE Wiki, which is based on a collection of children's books. Each member posts their thoughts on one book a week and ideally assigns it to KS1 or KS2. The idea is then to suggest activities that could be done using the book and how literacy can often be strongly linked with other curriculum areas.
Take a look at the English Wiki and some of my own entries...
Week 1 - We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury
Week 2 - Brinkworth Bear goes to Hospital by Annie West
Week 3 - Little Beaver and the Echo by Amy MacDonald and Sarah Fox-Davies
Week 4 - Buster by Linda Jennings
Week 5 - The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson
Week 6 - The Iron Man by Ted Hughes
